Monday Message 5/2/2011

Happy Monday Parents,

We have another eventful week for our students!  This Friday is the talent show for 2nd grade and above.  It will be 1-3 p.m. in the CLC Gym behind the main school building.  Join us if you are able.

This Saturday there are several events for you to know about.

An all day music extravaganza - Saturday, May 7, from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. in the field beside Advent United Methodist Church! Don’t miss live local bands performing Oldies, Blues, Rock, Contemporary Christian and much more! The little ones will enjoy the KID’S ZONE with inflatable moonwalks and slides, climbing wall, rope bridge, games and more. There will be BBQ, pizza, popcorn and plenty to do for the whole family. Cost of admission is $10/adult, $8/student with valid student ID, $5 for Seniors 65+, and kids 12 and under FREE! Bring the lawn chairs and enjoy all or part of this day-long event! Check us out on the web at www.festivalatfiveforks.com.

GreerFest is this Saturday.  Hope parent, Dana Martin (Cam, A2), works for the Greer chamber and is very involved with this event. The festival hours are 6 pm – 10 pm and Friday and 10 am – 10 pm on Saturday.  Attached is a map of the area where the festival will be held.  The Main Stage, where Hope's favorite recording artist Benton Blount will be playing, is marked with the “7”.  He will play at 7 pm on Saturday and there will be a group of us from Hope out to see him.  We would love if you could come out and cheer him on!  Wear your "Hope" gear if you come!  Also the area marked with “5” is Creation Station – free arts and crafts for children from 11 am to 3 pm on Saturday.  (That is Dana's favorite part of the festival – it is great!!)  Children’s rides will be in the area marked with the “3” and inflatables will be in the grassy area of City Park.  Movies will be shown where the red barricade is shown at the corner of Main Street and Highway 14 (it is listed as “1” on the attached map).  Come on our and join some small town fun!  For more details, check out www.greerfamilyfest.com

Also coming up is Master Kim's Breakathon.  This is an annual fundraiser held by the students at Master Kim's Tae Kwan Do that benefits Project HOPE Foundation.  It will be held on May 14 in Advent's CLC Gym from 10 a.m. to about 2 p.m.   The event will run until 2011 boards are broken!  Anyone attending can participate in board breaking (great for moms and dads too!).  Here is the schedule of events:

    10:00     Warm-up and Opening Ceremonies
    10:30      Board Breaking Begins
11:30      Awards to Top Fundraisers & Guests Breakers (maybe Ms. Susan and Ms. Lisa???)
Masters and Instructors Demonstration (you don't want to miss this part - very cool!)
12:00      Board Breaking Resumes until all 2011 boards are broken!

They will have prize drawings, raffle items, free food, a bake sale, inflatables, and possibly a fire truck. Please join the fun on Saturday, May 14.

On Thursday, May 12, students in Academy 3 will visit Roper Mountain Science Center for science activities.  Please let Ms. Christine know if you are able to drive for this trip.

Also on Thursday, May 12, students 2nd grade and above will visit Camp Greenville for an extended day trip.  Permission slips including all the details will be coming home Tuesday or Wednesday this week.  Please return them no later than May 10. Yearbook order forms are coming home today or tomorrow and the yearbook orders are due by Friday, May 6.  If you previously ordered one, please don't order again, this is just a second chance! Teacher Appreciation week will be May 16 - 20.  The administration has several treats scheduled for the teachers, but we would love your input.  Let us know if you have ideas! Our final day of school for the year will be May 27 wrapping up with our end of year program at 9am followed by individual classroom recognition and a family meal together!  Please make sure you are able to join us that day! Any final balances for tuition, registration, or other fees need to be paid in full by May 15 unless you see Ms. Susan to make other arrangements.  Please call her (676-0028) or email susansachs@projecthopesc.org if you need to discuss further.

We have enjoyed this year with your children!  We plan to make the most of the four weeks we have left!
