With the alarming increase in the occurrence of autism, there has never been a greater need for our services. When Project HOPE Foundation was founded in 1997, the occurrence rate for autism was 1 in 2,500. In the past decade, that number has skyrocketed to 1 in 150, and recent statistics estimate that the rate may be as devastatingly high as 1 in 91.
From its inception, Project HOPE Foundation has led the way in responding to the ever-growing needs of the children and families we serve.
- In 1997, we established Hope Academy, the first school in South Carolina intentionally designed to include children with autism in regular classrooms, to help them succeed with a normal curriculum and develop relationships with typical classmates. Hope Academy has given over 1,000 children – both those with autism and those without – the chance to learn in classrooms dedicated to nurturing the best in everyone.
- Concurrently, we established Hope Link, a program designed to help families deal with the challenges of autism by providing information about autism spectrum disorders, including symptoms, therapies, interventions, services, funding options, and coping skills.
- In 2007, Project HOPE Foundation established Hope Reach as the first non-profit provider of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy in South Carolina and the first clinic-based therapy alterative in the Upstate.
- In 2009, Hope Alive was established to expand the potential of children, youth and young adults with autism who are not being served through traditional models of education and support.
Though our mission is simple, the results are nothing short of life-altering.
