Bridging the Gap Summer Program
The Bridging the Gap (BTG) Booster summer program is comprised of students on the autism spectrum who are entering into kindergarten, 1st, or 2nd grade in the fall of 2014. The BTG model, which includes the use of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles in a classroom setup, allows students to be exposed to a group instruction environment that maximizes learning opportunities. Students participating in the 8-week BTG Booster program will be able to maintain classroom skills over the summer and boost their success for returning or entering into a mainstream classroom the next fall. Students gain valuable experience through practicing skills such as choral responding, following group instructions, following conditional instructions, independent academic work, and facilitated peer interaction. Curriculum is modified to fit each student’s academic needs and learning styles.
BTG allows students to make academic, social, and behavioral gains by providing a fast-paced, fun environment. Students participating in this program increase their independence with academic tasks and learn to regulate their own behaviors in a classroom environment, all while forming relationships with their peers.
